I need a good pair of party speakers. They need to be able to kick out alot of bass and a nice high SPL. I was looking at the Cerwin-Vega VE-15F's.
Does Cerwin make decent equipment or are there other brands you would recommend? |

Vintage CVs can be quite good, buying new I'd look at Klipsch for a speaker that plays as loud but with better detail, imaging, and accuracy.

I'd probably grab a bunch of really cheap speakers and a movie theater subwoofer, then some amps. After looking at the price I'm sure 2 sets of those CW's + a JBL Pro Sub and WHAM!

Andre, that sub would cost about a grand, if not more. I know Klipsch pro theater subs are expensive. Here is a link to a JBL DJ subwoofer, which is priced at $900 with a discount. The cinema subwoofer would be even more expensive IMHO, because the level of refinement "should" be higher.

Sending a link to the cinema speakers makes me keenly aware (once more) that you have no real clue as to the price 
For that kind of money, you'd be better off with the Klipsch LaScala, or possibly even higher up the Klipsch line. |

Actually, they're about the same. I never looked at the prices on cinema speakers though. Just a sec..

I'm not sure if that's each, but I think it is. Maybe you're right, but I'd probably pay those prices if I were wanting more SPL, from both woofer and horns. The most powerful JBL Cinema Sub goes for $1000 at some places.

those are the cheapest in the lineup... FWIW, the sub for $580, that really surprises me. I still wouldn't recommend it though.
Paired with the cinema speakers, it comes to almost $1800. You could get a nice pair of brand new Klipsch Heresey's for that price.
A pair of CV or Klipsch Reference floorstanders (or the Hereseys for that price) would most likely be a better choice, unless the OP is looking to fill a ballroom.

I thought he said it was for lots of bass and a party? In that case I'd just get a pair of the CW's, that amp for those. One of the subs + that amp = WHOMP WHOMP. |

build some yourself for way cheaper. i made a cheap set of speakers...didn't put much effort into the box design but built it very solid...phoned up Solen and they designed my crossover for my Peerless components. i have people over every weekend and we listen to EVERYTHING. Loud screaming heavy metal to reggeaton to girly pop music to hardcore rap. Let me tell you, these things take everything. they are incredible. i'm powering them a behringer a500 amp and they will take whatever i throw at them. I was so impressed i'm building this set of speakers (http://customanalogue.com/elsinore/elsinore_index.htm)
note: These are called the Elsinore speaker...they have no made the Elsinore MKII using the Peerless HDS tweeter rather than the Vifa.
These are going to be amazing. |
