I saw Metallica in Madison Square Garden last night. Excellent setlist. A mix of old and new stuff, while leaving out Load, Reload, and St. Anger.

They played two very rare live songs - Shortest Straw and Dyer's Eve. Both in the same night!

Setlist -
That Was Just Your Life
The End Of The Line
Creeping Death
The Shortest Straw
Fade To Black
Broken, Beat And Scarred
My Apocalypse
Sad But True
One
The Judas Kiss
The Day That Never Comes
Master Of Puppets
Dyers Eve
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman
Last Caress (Misfits cover)
Trapped Under Ice
Seek & Destroy

Even if you're a casual fan, you should see them.

SQ wasn't that great. Not bad either though. A touch too loud at where I saw sitting.

My ears are still ringing from a Metallica concert about 20-yrs. ago. It was also one of the few concerts I've ever left in my life, because all jokes aside, I felt as if my hearing was actually being damaged.

Glad you had a good time Stu.

I caught Metalica back in 96 with Soundgarden at Lalapooluza, great stuff. The highlight of the evening for me was seeing the Ramones. I can die a happy man.

I met the Ramones at Co-Op Tapes and Records in Rockford, Ill just before their gig next door. I was like the unpaid employee there. That's where I first met a bunch of folks, like the fella's from Cheap Trick who went to school with and were best buds with a friend of mine who worked at that store. Fun days those were!

That Metallica show sounds like fun.

I'm a big GN'R fan. Going to see them twice in January when they will be stopping by. It's fake GN'R but they still put on a hell of a show, and it's still Axl. Saw them twice in 2006 (once at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York). A full out hard rock show inside a small theater...my hearing wasn't right for a week at least. This time I'm going to bring ear plugs.

Metallica was loud, but not that loud. My ears were ringing a little after the concert, but that's about it. I've heard far louder bands.

I found a site that shows how many times they've played each song, set lists, etc. What can I say, I'm bored. In the 25 years since Ride The Lightning was released, Sunday night was the 16th time they ever played Trapped Under Ice.

Up until very recently, they never played Dyers Eve live. Fans used to show up at concerts with "Please play Dyers Eve!!! written on their shirts. When the new bassist joined the band, one condition was that they play the song live.

They hadn't played The Shortest Straw in such a long time that when doing the motion capture for Guitar Hero Metallica, it took the drummer 6 or 7 takes to get it right.

To hear all 3 of those songs played live in the same night was pretty cool.

Last time I saw them play was '92 during their Black album tour. They had no opening band, and played for almost 4 hours. That show was a little better, due to the amount of time they played and their youth, but not that much better. Back then they played like they were pissed off and angry (in a good way). This time they seemed like 4 guys who just love to play music and are having as much fun as the crowd. An interesting change.

I saw Metallica for the Master Of Puppets tour back in 86....met the band and got autographs at a record show the day before the gig- Including Cliff. Great band and a great show. Cliff was an amazing showman....lol. Lots of pissed off aggression in that dude.

I've been to hundreds and hundreds of concerts but on Saturday night I went to see a band I have never seen before.......Steely Dan. They were in town for two nights playing Aja on Friday and The Royal Scam on Saturday. The local rag did not give the Aja show a real glowing review which gave me cause for concern. I generally disagree with this rag and reviewer, but his comment about the band being "loud and bright" worried me some. They came out and played The Royal Scam in it's entirety and then a bunch of "greatest hits" material.....a little over two hours worth. I don't know if the band made adjustments (I HIGHLY doubt) or the guy on the board got hisass chewed or the reviewer had issues but they had 13 people on stage and they were tight! Like spot-on tight and mixed beautifully from where I was sitting. A GREAT show I would highly recommend.

Right now, it's Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars on vinyl.

Cool stuff Stryvn! Great autographs.

The Bohemians had a pretty good rhythm section at one time...

Till Wodek shot the bass player, of course.

Hope you enjoyed that new Norah Jones, Stryvn. I just picked it up today and am waiting for my wife to finish watching her 2 programs (in her office ofcourse, Phil and Oprah!) because she wants to hear it.

I just saw Smither here on Oct 28 Bryan. Nice gig at a VERY small venue. His live gigs are better than his albums, IMO.

Lemme know what you think of the Norah Jones, Art. It is NOT typical Norah Jones but.......

I've seen him twice at small gigs.
And yes .. he manages to put so much more of himself into the live shows
There are two clubs within an hour that are fairly small venues of less than150 people. They are never lacking for a full crowd, and the performer has the audience's absolute attention.

Norah Jones - The Fall

Mixed bag. "Back to Manhatten" seems the closest to evolution that we get on the record. "December" is classic Norah, nothing new but if it ain't broke...

A blending of the old Nora and this strange mess that she is experimenting with on this record are "Tell Yer Mama" and "Man of the Hour". Not bad.

Seems that several songs are an attempt to pander to critics by presenting something new and different, but in the end it sounds more like a failed attempt to reach the stars already long ago reached by Neko Case, The White Stripes and Lorreta Lynn and others. Thankfully, like Cassandra Wilson on "Thunderbird" and Lucinda Williams on "Honey Bee", Nora and her producers can't hide her talent in a bunch of electronic mess and she still shines through, but on some of these songs it's more like a peak of sunshine through the clouds.

All in all it's a keeper, but I'm looking forward to the next one, more as redemption than anything else.

An NPR review spoke of her desire the other day to visit her "dark" or "bad" side. As the reviewer stated, considering Norah's voice, that will be a challenge to accomplish.
