I plan on putting together a system mainly for listening to music on my computer. This is my first time putting a system together so I'm not sure what components I'm going to need. In the end I want to have one sub (I was looking at the Velodyne DSP-12B) and two floor speakers (was looking at Athena AS-F2.2). Are the speakers I was looking at good for what I plan on using them for? If they are what type of reciever should I look for? |

Those are great speakers. What is your budget for a receiver? |

I'd like to spend $300-600 on the reciever. For the sound card I'll be using the Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic card. Thanks for the help. |

John, Can't help you on the Athenas since I don't know them. You don't really need a receiver since you can get radio over the 'net (at worse quality than FM admittedly). With that budget in mind, you could be looking at a NAD C325BEE or C352. These are fine performers and the 352 has a fair amount of power. There are many other brands of course and this depends in part on what your aspirations are as well as what's available in your area. Regards, Frank. |
