Hi,
I am planning to upgrade my receiver and want some recommendations.

I am looking for a receiver for 70% HT and 30% music. Budget is around $1000.
I currently have very old yamaha receiver and a pair of MMGs.Room size is small-medium.

For the HT I plan to buy the HSU ventriloquist VT-12 with the subwoofer.
I plan to keep the MMGs mostly for stereo and use the vt-12 setup for HT.So the receiver should have some kind of A/B.
When I went to a local shop here in Ottawa, once I mentioned MMG I was directed to Arcam and NAD.
Arcam is above my budget.
NAD T753 looks good but worried abt the noise issues many people experience as I read in the forums. Also they are not very feature rich ex. no THX (I am not sure how important it is but since I am on lookout for a new receiver why not get one with all features so that I dont have to upgrade for few more years)

Based on my research I found following to consider..
1. Elite vsx81
2. Outlaw 1070
3. Nad T753
4. Pioneer 1016

Any thoughts?

Nice choices, but being an Outlaw Audio owner, my vote goes to the 1070. I also own and love the NAD, but some take issue with the noise problem. With the MMGs, I think the Outlaw is your best bet.

Thanks Berny.
Is the outlaw able to do A/B for the speakers.I checked the specs and did not see any info on this.

Also ,has anyone ordered it into ontario, Canada.I want to get the feel of how much duty and taxes I have to pay in case I go for it.

Thanks

The taxes are gst and pst.
Duty is 6% and on the taxes, too!
Shipping from the border is extra.

If the Outlaw in MADE in the USA, there will be no duty. Only GST and PST and some sort of "Broker Charge". Make sure the shipping papger work reads "MADE IN USA". Assuming the Outlaw in made in the USA.

for HT, your choices 1-4 for receivers all seem to cut the cake and are fine considerations. I would worry about the capability of pioneer's for powering your stereo maggies to full potential.

Depending on the model you have, they can be made in China, Indonesia or Malaysia.

I got the outlaw 1070 finally.
Will set it up this weekend.
I am trying to find a sound (db) meter in Ottawa.
There is no radio shack in canada and it seems the
meter is not available in any stores.Does anyone staying in Ottawa know where I can get it.

No RS in the capital? They are called "The Source" now. Source for what is still in question.

Watched a couple of movies.I liked it .Certainly a huge upgrade over my old yamaha.I did run into "no audio " issue sometimes while changing digital modes. Its a well known issue and outlaw is working on it.Customer service is pretty nice.Open a ticket and you get replies pretty fast. I got all my questions answered within few hours.Sound wise its pretty cool!

Scott there at Outlaw is first rate.

penn, how is the unit for running the mmg's in stereo? The bass management in the 1070 should be seamless.

Happy Listening!

What cdp are you using?
