I am using the pre-amp out from my 4806 to a old onkyo amp to run 4 outside speakers via zone 2. My question is will the 4806 play the same source through both the main zone and zone 2? Also will I be able to play music with my dvd player though zone 2? I have tried both scenarios and multiple connections as well as settings through the 4806 and had zero success (feeling pretty dumb and numb by now)...

Thanks for any help and advice...

.

I'm not familiar with the 4806 but you certainly should be able to direct the same source to both zones. You probably have to get to a menu that will require a TV monitor. Why don't you call the dealer where you bought the receiver for some after the sale assistance?

But what makes you think that a pre-amp out can be configured as a zone 2? Is that a special software configuration on 4806?
