Ok, Well I am into the car audio thing but have decided that I really need something for my room...I am looking for a reciever and prolly 2 speakers...I eventually would like to add a sub but for the time being I will just do the speakers. I am mainly going to play music but might use it for tv or movies. So if anyone could help me out It would be greatly appreciated....Trying to keep this as cheap as possible under 500 if I can |

A good 2 ch receiver is the Harman Kardon HK-3380/3480. New they run around $400, you can get a factory refurbished one for $198 http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_browse/product_detail.asp?urlMaterialNumber=HK %203480-Z For speakers there are endless options but the target price for a great set of bookshelfs tends to be around $400 $500 http://www.us.alegriaaudio.com/Ling.htm $368 shipped http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/cbm170/cbm170.htm |

I'd go with the recommendations from Kano. There's also Athena ASF-2.2, a much better option than the e90s. I think it provides more detail. |

I absolutely agree HK is an excellent choice, but if Home Theater is a future consideration I would opt for the AVR-135 http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_browse/product_detail.asp?urlMaterialNumber=AV R%20230-Z&status= These Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 only sale at Amazon for $199, shipped, are the best value by far going today http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00005IA30/ref=dp_olp_2/002-2539786-58472 00 , but they are on back order, so if you need speakers ASAP, in addition to the aforementioned speakers, I would consider the ONIX X-LS for $219 from AV123 http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=82.1 , and these factory refurbished Infinity Beta 20 for $199 ($250 with shipping, still a good deal). http://cgi.ebay.com/INFINITY-BETA-20-BLACK-PAIR-ONLY-199-WHAT-A-DEAL_W0QQitemZ13 0042929169QQihZ003QQcategoryZ94905QQcmdZViewItem |

yes thats really the only downside to them that I see but I can get the reciever, speakers, and wire shipped for 660 so thats not really that bad because I think it will do the things that I want it for....or at least that is what I am hoping for. I have read quite a few reviews from people about both things and they all have had good reviews about the reciever and the speakers, a lot of people said the speakers had good bass and sounded good. |

Thanks Nuck, they're 92db...Wow! How familiar are you with Cerwin Vega? Do they get a fair shake in the marketplace? They're reminiscent of the Klipsch Heritage line. The HK-3480 is linked to above, but it's a bit of a budget buster, but I'd cough-up the extra $$$ forit if I could. I'm not sure who's building the Insignia receivers for Best Buy, but they seem to be solid, and for $60 worth definitely worth a try (If I had a place to put it, I'd pick one up at that price). |

CM, I used to be familiar with CV in a strip-bar kind of way. I think CV get a fair shake as far as their uses go, no hi-fi happening, but affordable, rugged and solid delivery. The 3-way will fill a hall. I used them as kareoke monitors and they worked really well. Not audiophile, but very very good at what they do. Yeah, for $60 bucks, why not the Insignia? If I were to have only one receiver it would be the H/K, but for a 2nd unit, or for S&G, why not? |

The newer CLS-12 has larger grills that cover the mid-range, are bi-wirable, and have some other minor tweaks. http://www.amazon.com/Cerwin-CLS-12-3-Way-Tower-Speakers/dp/B0009Y4T5Y/sr=1-12/qid=1163090643/ref=sr_1_12/002-2787300-5062454?ie=UTF8&s=electronics This is what the CLS-12 looks like

Chris.... I wonder what those CV's would sound like powered by the Pioneer Elite A-35R its a KICK @SS midfi intergrated that puts out 45 watts. it has a really rich, warm almost tubelike sound. positively addicitve in the delivery, and would be killer for high efficiency speakers like those horn loads. Ive seen it for less than $200 on yahoo shopping. 2076_310069801_35186%2C00.html,http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/produ ct/details/0,,2076_310069801_35186,00.html |

I heard that little elite powering a pair of MartinLogan clarities, and it didnt cry uncle until the volume was turned up. At the volumes I usually listen to, and in the smallish room, which was a similar size to mine, it powered them admirably, although the volume knob was turned up a bit. that should say something about the power supply. The clarities arent really obnoxious to drive, but arent like klipsch either. This intergrated does not seem to be built like a run of the mill reciever. I have been reccomending it to people here that have efficient speakers that are looking for a simple, effective, yet awesome sounding and at the same time inexpensive way to upgrade from a reciever. To my ears it is the best sounding STEREO midfi piece that I have ever heard for $200. No, I wouldnt pair it with a laid back speaker however :-) |
