Hello,
Looking for input on the purchase of a new system which will include:
Receiver and or amp
Speakers. (Bookshelf preferred)
The unit will be for playing music only. The listening area is 25 x 25. I usually have the volume on the high side. I not looking for just loud, I am looking for a system that has the punch to be turned up with clarity and the sensitivity to handle lower volumes. Budget of $1,500 to $1,700.
Thank you for your assistance.

If a receiver is a possibility, I suggest the Outlaw RR2150, in ai 600US if ordered today, like.
Heres the rub, they just changed to a factory that can supply enough units, the old one was too slow, that and the receiver has been selling at an astounding rate.
The 2150 has a nice phono stage, at that!

Very capable looking unit, this.

That leaves a lot of room for speakers, cable and savings.

That Outlaw seems to be a good choice, have heard only good things about it.

If you prefer something you can demo locally, you could try a NAD c372, more than ample power and should run about $800 with a little negotiation.

For bookshelf speakers in a no-subwoofer configuration that pack bass rivaling a floorstander, these would an excellent choice:

Or these, which will have less bass but more warmth and should be locally available:

If crystal-clear and natural midrange is your thing, you could also try these:

There are only a couple of really good choices for a stereo receiver and still stay withing your budget (McIntosh is too expensive): The Outlaw 2150, and the Rotel RX-1052. You might also consider an integrated amp as suggested above. Either the NAD C372 or even the C352, are excellent units, highly praised by reviewers (the 372 is a reference unit for Sterophile last time I looked), and you will not be disappointed. I have the Rotel, which I love, and I have an NAD HT receiver, and both provide wonderful musical sound. The NAD is a bit warmer than the Rotel or Outlaw options, but with the same resolution.

For the NADs, you can try to contact Ed at Kief's (www.kiefs.com) or the guys at Saturday Audio (www.saturdayaudio.com). Both generally offer the NAD gear at about a 20-25% discount depending upon what deals NAD is offering them. You have to get their phone number off the website and call them to order.

For a good pair of bookshelfs, I would strongly recommend the Paradigm Studio 20s, a superb speaker system with NAD electronics. I would also recommend the Dynaudio 52s. Finally, I would also recommend the new NHT Classic Threes, a very compact three way bookshelf that is another exceptionally good speaker (I know Kiefs also sells the NHTs at a discount, and SA may also). Each of these, with any of the electronics susggested above, should be capable of filling your very large room with excellent sound.

Good luck!
