I'm trying to decide which sub to get:

US$620 Velodyne CHT12R (DLS-4000)
US$510 Wharfedale SW300
US$460 Definitive Technologies Prosub 200TL

Room size = L13' x W10' x H8.5' Concrete walls, solid wooden floor. Subwoofer usage 99% for movies.

Speakers: Wharfedale Diamond 8.4/C/DFS
Receiver: Yamaha RXV-2095

Unfortunately I am only able to demo the Prosub 200TL and nothing else :-(

Any suggestions/comments/tips/experience on the subs would be great. Currently I am leaning towards the SW300. Any idea if this has a protection mechanism?

Price is "almost" irrelevant, as sound quality/reliability will swing the decision :-)

Take a look at HSU subs. I prefer them over the Def Techs which I think are too boomy and not responsive enough for staccato passages. The Velodynes are great if you are on a budget, but for that price, I think the HSU is a lot better.

Unfortunately, I can only select from those three subs :-( and nothing else at the moment.

Argh, that is unfortunate. If that is the case, I'll take the Def Techs over Wharfedale and Velodyne.

I'd take the Velo, but have not heard the Wharfedale.

don't know about that particular model, but my first sub was a JBL e150 and my God it was a hopeless POS.
