Over the years I auditioned the Studio 100's in version 1,2,3. I didn't care for the v1 and v2 versions. To make sure I was not biased against them, I auditioned the new version 3 twice. I went to different shops with at least very good source equipment, then even re-auditioned them with my own cables and interconnects on a full dealer's Denon system. I never warmed up to them and didn't find them competitive in the $2200 range.

What is it that people find so appealing about them?

I found them generally smeary, a bloated soundstage, bass was muddy but plentiful and I didn't find even sufficient midrange detail or upper highs to have any sparkle, air or presence.
I preferred the sound of other Paradigms at half the price. Be sure and check e-bay and audiogon.com for used Studio 100's; should be easy to save some cash if you do decide on them.
