Quad ESL-2805
Quad ESL-2905

At first glance, they look like the same basic design as the ESL-988 and ESL-989, but heavier.

Well, that sparked a lively debate...

Let me give the main web page, again, and a link to the brochure for the new ESL speakers.

Here is my thread on this forum on the original ESL-63:

Not a whole lot more to be said John. Quad is known as the reference standard by many in the audio world. The quality of fit and finish just keeps getting better in the newer models.

Thanks, Rick!

For Quad, the only reference standard is the original sound.

I've just posted a reply to Jan Vigne on this issue, on Old Dogs.

All the best.

Hi John,

at the time of the launch of those new Quad electrostatics (too pricey for me), I recall seeing some very nice photos of them at the Munich High End Show.

The new Quads were being driven by an all Mcintosh setup, Mac CD player, Mac pre, and Mac pwr amp.

I cannot find a link anymore, its a shame, since there were some very pretty pics.

cheers
Rav

Thanks, Rav.

That must be a very fine combination.

I have not located the July Stereophile yet. August HiFi News is a 50th anniversary issue, with the original Quad "ESL57" apparently on everyone's shortlist of all-time great HiFi components. It also contains a Quad 1956 vs. 2006 comparison, for amp plus speakers, using a current Quad CD player as source.

I have the July Stereophile, now.

Sam Tellig is not writing a review so much as a eulogy. Quite right.

I doubt that Peter James Walker made a prototype 989 but everything else I endorse.

His dates are 1916-2003, not as stated there.

Rather a fascinating life lived, indeed!
And he must have been so proud to be able to provide so much enjoyment.

One of the greats, Nuck.

Yet he only comes thirteenth in the HiFi News "Hall of Fame"....!
