I pulled my old MZ-R701 out and im wondering if i can actually transfer music from my PC to the Minidisk player through the optical cord?

When i plug it in and follow the instructions for a SYNC-REC the device simply flashes NO SIGNAL.

To be honest im quite illiterate when it comes to this so some help would be greatly appreciated.
