I came back to my amp after 2 wks powered down and found the unit to be making a strong hum that does not change with volume.

Assuming the cables, wires and incoming voltage are not bad, does this sound familiar to anyone?

The amp is Rotel 985rb, driven hard once a week.

The power flickered before it was unplugged, wasn't on during the brownout.

Is the Rotel wanting me to look at Outlaw for the 200 mono's?

It's a tough sell, Berny.
Plausable deniability, were I the top dog.
Unfortunately, my lovely wife is smarter than me, and however opaque my motives, I stand transparant.
Pants down, like.
Unless I can muster a heck of a deal, it'll go over like a Led Zeppelin.

Well, the hum is from only the front right channel, and occurs whenever a speaker is connected to the channel, and without any input, in fact, no input cable connected at all.
Bummer.

I will call the retailer today, not hopeful of any warranty repair, but the guy is very helpful.

I am still mulling over the Outlaw, but that purchase maigh have to include a necklace, if you know what I mean.

The Outlaws or the necklace?

Haha. I just tossed the necklace in for a laugh, it wont be necessary. My partner knows I do what I want(for better or worse), but if she sees something REALLY sttupid coming up, she tells me.

When she does tell me I know I had better take a closer look.

I could, however make everything easy and quit smoking. That would pay for the stuff in short order.

The foil is in transit, Berny, although I doubt foil, voodoo or hail Mary's will repair the triac, fet or cap that has somehow been offended.

If the dealer says nofreebie, I will fix it myself, my scopemeter works just fine.

The owner said to bring it on down, a common repair, main power FET, has them there, along with an upgrade set for cheap, I bring my meter for a quick 101 on the amp.
I love a good dealer.

These guys have some pretty good stuff, I hope somebody checked out their site/store.

I called Outlaw today, and got hold of the site admistrator(they wear a lot of hats).
He guided me to a special with the 990 pre-amp(their best) with 5x 200m mono amps for 2223ud$.
I am straining for a reason not to purchase.

5 amps set up on shelves with handmade connects and 10g sparkling wire, all exposed.

I am also a grilles off kinda guy.

Am I going wrong?

Nuck

Do what I did - just name the day and stop. SIMPLE! I smoked since I was fifteen and ended up with a 30+ a day habit. I loved it. I still love the smell, but after more than eighteen months I have more than paid for all our home entertainment gear. Stop smoking and reward yourself big time - then you'll feel too guilty to start again.

Good luck!

Thanks guys!
I fished for some support and got it!
I quit for 7 years before, went back in through the divorce.
I decided last year to quit and buy a motorcycle, but I have now set my sights upon new audio. My wife likes the deal, amps as opposed to a 150hp V-max.
