JBL EC35 is my price range for centerchannel speaker and is highly rated. It raves about reprod. of voice for movies. I want my music cd's to sound great...all kinds of music from pop to opera. Am I looking at a good speaker for that?

What are the rest of your speakers? Almost certainly your cd's will sound better with no center channel. The less processed the better. If you insist on using a center channel for your cd's get one that is a timbre match to your mains.
