How does a universal player, such as the Denon DVD-3910, compare to a dedicated CD player when it comes to CD playback?
The denon is listed at $1500. Would it sound like a CD player costing around $1000?

thanks...

According to many reviews it is, but best to audition for yourself. Another is the Marantz Dv-9500

Universals don't stack up against dedicated players until you get into the 3k range. CD players as inexpensive as the NAD C542 outperfrom most universals under 2k. I bought a decent universal (Denon DVD2910) and a good dedicated player. For $1500 I have a great SACD and DVD playback solution and an outstanding cd player.
