i am buying a new receiver because my other one burnt out. i bought the sony str-de598. the new receiver has 90w per channel and 6 channels. my speakers max power is 200 watts does that mean it will take it or should i find out what the rms is first? thanks everyone. |

90 watts should do just fine with those speakers. You can damage the receiver and the speakers if you play the system as if it had 200 watts.

I agree with Jan. Don't worry, you're unlikely to blow out your speakers with the Sony. If a Sony claims 90wpc then on a good day it probably puts out about 40wpc. You'll know when to turn down the volume, from all the distortion that you'll hear when the receiver and speakers are being pushed beyond their limits. http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Hollow/3401/ratevsac.htm?20055 Out of curiousity, what are the speakers? |
