i have a pioneer vr6060 6.1 100w x 6 reciever right now.
i want to buy some martin-logan clarity speakers at 150watt. i also want to get a denon ar3086 120x 7 7.1 reciever. the question is can i use the pioneer to power the speakers until i ge the xtra 1300 for the denon?

Yes you can. To get the most out of the MLs you should think about adding a power amp to your current receiver rather than replacing it (providing there's nothing wrong with the Pioneer)

thanks, actually the vr6060 is a kenwood (if that changes your opinion) i have pioneer vsx-305 5.1 100 watt upstairs

Be careful attaching any speakers lower than 8ohms to the Kenwood. The vr-6060 is not very tolerant of low impedance speakers.
