I'm new to the home audio game and am looking to set up a decent system at a reasonable cost. Mainly I need some direction on a receiver? Brand channels watts per chan. basic things really. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

budget? speakers? room size?

Sorry, but we're going to need some info before we can give recommendations. Just remember, that's all we can give, in the end it's your gear in your house. Researching is a really fun part of the process. You can start by going to each of the brands websites and read up on their models. Denon.com, harmankardon.com, marantz.com.....to name just a few.

Good luck!
