I have an Onkyo 503 receiver that I really like. I was trying to pull out my optical cable and accidently broke the little cover proctector thing off one of the optical input. My question is will this hurt the input? It plays the same as always and I haven't noticed any difference. Being a begginner I was unsure if anything would be wrong without this protector cover. Does it do anything other than keep dust/ect. out when the input is not used?

Thanks for your help...
