Sounds like the receiver for me. Great reviews. Great price/feature ratio. The only place I could find that mentions it is multi-zone is in one of the reviews.

How can I tell if it or in general if any multi-zone receiver needs or doesn't need an additional amp?

It has the ability to power a stereo signal into another location in your house

i.e zone 2.

Anytime a receiver says that it has multizone connections then you don't need a seperate amp.
