Are all speaker wire directional meaning that you need to hook up the wire with the writing on it toward the speaker? I have Acoustic Research 16 gauge wire and I never knew anything about this. If all my wire is not hooked up this way, does it matter? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks...

The only way an AC cable is directional is when it's shielded and only one side is grounded. Speaker wire is not shielded and the current flows half the time in each direction (AC), so this is no direction. AFAIK.

The only "direction" that makes any difference is that + or red goes to + or red, and - or black goes to - or black.

I meant their is no 'direction' for speaker cables, not AC cables.

Stu, I was correcting my own error... nothing to do with your post at all.

The whole unidirectional speaker wire is snake oil. I was talking to an electrical engineer who said he was a sceptic and couldn't believe he could hear the difference. I think he was just trying to defend his $200 purchase. Check out this speaker cable face-off. Very intriguing,
