hi all..my pioneer sacd/dvd player, (dv-563a), is hooked up to a yamaha htr-5640 receiver via 5.1 analog hookup, also analog in/out hooked up for regular cds as per manual. it sounds good and i know i need the analog hookup for sacd, but i wonder if sound from other types of discs would improve with a digital hookup, if so can i have both a digital hookup and the 5.1 analog hooked up at the same time?...thanks

Why not try it and see if you can hear a difference? You can have both digital and analog connected.

Pete,

You can have both analog and digital connections at the same time and switch back and forth between the two using the controls on your receiver. I've found that the analog connection is substantially better for listeing to DVD-Audio discs (and I assume for SACD). I switch to the digital connection for DTS and DD encoded DVDs. Surprisingly, CDs sound better through the digital connection with my NAD receiver doing the D/A conversion.

BTW how do you like the Pioneer 563?
