Hi all, Well I'm starting out a new system for listening to mostly vocal and jazz. I decided to try out a tube based amp setup and managed to get a hold of a pair of Wave 8s with some nice upgrades already installed for me! (which end of the soldering iron do you hold again? My plan is to build simple home-brew speakers based on the Fostex 126E full range drivers. Eventually I might upgrade those if my wood working skills turn out to be better than my electronics skills. What I'm looking for is an inexpensive, no frills preamp to match with the amps. Tube or SS will be considered, but I want something fairly cheap (sub $300) so I can swap it out if I don't like it. Used is definitely an option. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks! Rahul |

Begin with a passive pre amp and don't bother with any active circuits for now. Hear what you have with the minimum between the source and the speakers.

Well, I went one step beyond... perhaps. I'm going to go straight from a Music Hall MMF-CD25 HDCD with a variable output to the Wave 8s. Rahul |
