OK, if it were your birthday and you knew that someone was going to buy you a pair of bookshelf speakers, costing between $300 and $450 a pair, but weren't sure what they would be, name the 3 specific speakers that you would wish for!

Or in other words, if you just could not decide on just one, name 3 that you would love, OR could easily live with, if you had to flip a 3 sided coin for..or pull randomly out of a large hat!

Again, eventually would be 3 pairs of these PLUS a subwoofer for a 6.1 setup!

Name 3 can't-go-wrong-with-no-brainers!

:-)

B&W 602 s3
Dynaudio 52 OSE (not sure if it's audience or contour)
Wharfedale Diamond 8.1/9.1

Would add a REL/Velodyne sub to each of these.

I think those B&W's are outside of my price range -

are the 601's almost as good?

Anyone else?

Tim,

I'd be happy enough with B&W DM 600 S3 (list $350/pair). To my taste, it's the most beautiful design (compact, nice looking) and very decent sound.

However, I'm buying the ugly Ascend CBM-170 ($328/pr), claimed to be the best value in bookshelves (equivalent to higher B&W models).

B&W DM600
B&W DM601 (I prefer the 600, but some prefer the 601)
Totem Dreamcatcher (might fit in the price range)
Wharfedale Diamond 9.1

Regards,
Frank.

yes, the ugly factor applies to the Ascends. I dont think they are ugly but they are not pretty and I haven't even attempted to ask the wife about putting it in the living room.

Having 6 ascends in your living room? Are you married? Better check it out.

Timn8ter - your speakers seem to be really good - but this guy can't give them a listen first - so he is wanting speakers many have heard to pick from.

What is your return policy if people don't like them, by the way?

thanks

If after listening to them for 2 weeks you don't like them I'll refund your money.

Yeah the Totem Dreamcatcher system looks awfully impressive - I've seen their ads in a lot of American stereo and home theater magazines...

but I shyed away from it because of the 4 Ohm impedence!?!

Plus, I am REALLY curious to hear how 6 identical speakers plus a sub powered by a decent amp will sound!
