Basic question. How do you know what's the best crossover freq to to set your non THX receiver to? Should you use the one listed on the speaker's spec sheet under "crossover frequency?" Or is there a rule of thumb I should know about?

Set the receiver crossover frequency to just above the lowest frequency of smallest speaker that is not the sub. The quoted speaker crossover frequency is usually the frequency above and below which its own internal drivers each take responsibility for the whole speaker's complete frequency response - it is much higher, and not really relevant to deciding where to set the crossover between the main/surround speakers and the sub (that is usually say 60 - 100 Hz).
