I've got my iPod, I've got my radio. Both have a line out. I also have a guitar amp which has a phono input -- the volume of which can't be adjusted. I think I need a pre-amp in between the iPod/radio and the amp.

Am I correct? Is there an alternative? Thanks ;-)

When you say "phono input" are you talking about a phone jack for line level inputs or a turntable input? I've never seen a guitar amp with an input for a turntable.

Or maybe phono plugs as in RCA plugs? i.e. a line input?
