If using only the digital audio output of a CD player, do I need to have a good DAC in the CD player or since the Digital to Analog conversion is in the receiver, a less expensive CD player will provide equivalent quality? |

The signal that is fed to the DAC will determine the quality of the final product. A better transport mechanism will assure the lowest error readings, aliasing distortion and jitter distortion. It's difficult to find a top notch transport in a lower priced CD player.

Use your computer as a transport - lower jitter makes for an upscale one. There is a lot on this topic here : http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?icomp&1&ctg&0&50& |
