This is supposed to have a preamp, but on my Pioneer VSX-815-K I dont get alot of sound... any ideas?

I thought of getting a Stanton STR8 80X
What do you think that would do?

Also,

If I switch internal preamp on the Sony, can I still use an external preamp? or do I need to turn the internal off??
