After 2 days of frustration, I've solved my "Bad or missing sys files" problem.
Tried everything, as many others have - reformatted drive 5 times, reloaded sys files countless times, left battery off overnight, reset, prayed, etc.
Finally, in desperation, got my old laptop out which is running Win98SE and downloaded the latest programs from the RCA site. Then I reformatted the drive and reinstalled the sys files from the Lyra tray and bingo, everything is fine!
Hope it works for you.
