OK, I'm not a power audio guy. I got hold of an old turntable/amp/radio combo unit in a thrift store.Turntable is a Garrard 2025TC.Everything works fine EXCEPT the automatic features of the turntable don't function. That is, it won't drop the record, not will the arm return at the end of the record. I can force a record down the spindle by pushing back the detente.

So two questions: (1) what if anything can I do to get the automatic turntable to work? or, if that's too difficult, (2) can I yank out the automatic spindle and just put in a manual spindle?

If you push down on the spindle and twist counter clockwise, the spindle should release. If you have a short manual spindle just slide it in place.
