I'm getting a Paradigm pdr8 sub and would like to put it about two feet from my tv, with a stereo cabinet in between. Been told it's a potential harm to the TV. Anyone with a bad experience/cautionary tale out there? Thanks.

there should not be any problem with it,but check with manual-if your sub is magnetically shielded-no problem,if not just try to put it close to the tv and see what it does,if picture gets distorted just move it away from tv screen to the point where picture is not distorted anymore
