I have read seemingly all that there is to read on this forum and the cables forum, and darn it if I still can't decide what cables to buy. I don't want to spend much on cables, yet I expect greatness. I have a Yamaha receiver and not a very big room. Recommendations and/or links are greatly appreciated. |

Short runs, long runs? Entry level Audioquest is a decent place to start, or get some used cables off of audiogon. People like Signalcable for the price. I'm sure you will get people telling you to not to more than the minumum on speaker cable but I do not fall into that camp. |

Go to Ascend Acoustics' site and look at their cables in the "accessories" category. $.75/foot gets you 11 ga oxygen-free copper cable with bare-wire terminals. There are other considerably more costly options (IMO, fools' errands and money down the rabbit's hole), as well as cheaper ones: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/newsletter/147/cable_survey2_b.html Excerpt: "...but the obvious top honors for value go to Home Depot’s outdoor extension cords: They won’t give you any bragging rights among certain audiophiles, but they’ll sure save you a bundle at very little sacrifice in performance. The two cables that didn’t yield felicitous results with my system I’m inclined to attribute to system incompatibility. The results I obtained from my top choices doubtless owe a lot to synergistic compatibility. In my opinion, selection of interconnect and speaker cable lies somewhere between a fifth- and tenth-order consideration when putting together a fine sound system, far below speakers, electronics, ergonomic and reliability considerations, speaker placement, room treatment, not to mention price." So there you have it: the alpha and the omega of speaker cable options. More does not get you more...and even if it does, it doesn't get you more than if you spent the money on something that actually produces or processes the sound, rather than just carries it. I'm sure there are others here who will take exception with my opinion. |

You can go down to Home Depot and get about the same stuff. It might be sound king as well. Saves time and shipping costs. |
