I tried this out on my home stereo but couldn't decide. If you have two identical speakers playing the same sound at the same volume would the volume be twice as loud as if you had only 1 of the speakers? |

It doesn't matter. Just stick in an average 89dB and get the results.

WOW, I get 117.3 dB SPL at listening postion. But I only used up to 50 on the scale of 1-80. So I might have listened to at around 80db something. Am I right?

Only the three front speakers are counted since the rears are seldom anywhere near the same volume as the fronts and some amplifiers don't deliver the same power across all channels. The sub is not counted. You get 114dB peaks. That should be loud enough but you didn't do the math for one vs. two speakers, which was your original question. I don't understand your comment about the 1-80 scale.

Twice the acoustic power going out into the air means the sound is approximately 6db louder. |

1 is lowest and 80 is loudest. So 50 is a little above the middle.
I got 112 or 114 if I typed in 2 or 3 speakers.
It makes sense and 1+1 is not equal to 2. Since the sound wave may offset each other by some amount. |

Thanks for the link, having two speaker doesn't add a huge amount to the volume, my max was 112db. Just off point a bit i was looking at a car air horn a minute ago that puts out 170db 100 meters away now that's loud! |
