hi there, just setting up a starter system as a favour for a mate but am in a quandry as to what cd player to buy on a very tight budget (students huh?) cos we blew most of the budget on amp and speakers so it can take upgrades later (rega elex and vintage B&W DM-14's). he wants a warmish natyral sound. have been looking at the 'natural sound' Yamaha stuff on ebay but also saw a few Marantz cd-52se's on ther. i really like them but worried may be too bright. will the rega smooth this off a little? as i think the cd-52 will prob have the edge in quality. Any ideas?

Marantz CD players dont usually fall into the category of "bright" as in harsh. They are well built, ands since your in a lottery you'll do better to place your money on them than Yamaha. Only my opinion :-) caveat emptor
