I have the following speaker setup: Athena AS-F2 Athena AS-B1 Athena AS-C1 Athena PS400 I am looking to buy a new receiver. It will be used primarily for movies. I am willing to spend up to $500. I have read about the Kenwood VR-8070 and the Pioneer VSX-1014 and both seem to be a lot of 'bang for your buck' and both are THX Select certified. Which should I get? Are there other receivers in that price range I should be considering? |

Harman Kardon really brings out the best of the Athena speakers. The warm H/K balances nicely with the bright and detailed Athenas. I also liked the Pioneer Elite but not as much. |

I'd go for the Pioneer. Personally, I've had bad experience with H/K quality. |

The only problem I ever had with my 2 H/k's was overheating and then freezing up due to inadequate ventilation. The H/K would be a very good sonic match for Athena. |

As I say on almost every post it really depends on you taste in audio. I'm the type of guy who turns up the treble a little in his car, I like a more detailed sound over a more bassy sound. The pioneer is a great receiver. The H/K isn't bad but for the money the Pioneer IMO is the better buy. |

Thanks for all the input so far. One more option to throw out there... How about the Marantz SR4500? |
