I recently hooked up my parents old turntable to my stereo. Its one of those Sony shelf systems. I used a regular phono preamp ($25-$30 at an electronics store) to connect it. I connected the ground wire on the turntable out to a screw on the preamp. Despite this, I'm still getting a wicked low frequency hum as well as a buzzing noise that fluctuates as a record plays. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of the hum and the buzz? Its driving me crazy and I would love some help. Thanks.

Okay, so i fixed the low frequency hum by grounding to my outlet screw but i'm still getting this awful buzz. Anyone know what that could be caused by?

make sure you are on the correct input on your amp, also that your cartridege is proporly mounted, and that all components are grounded. try cleaning the contact points between everything, and also try hooking something else up to the amp, not a turntable and see if it's still buzzy.
