complete novice.....can anyone help recommend an amp on budget, i was gonna get a Marantz PM7200, but was offered an Arcam Alpha 9 in the sale for £200. Problem is they wanna sell it with an Alpha 8 cd player for £300, pushin the budget up. will a cheaper marantz CD player spoil the arcam like the dealer says? should i stick with Marantz, combine or just go for it??? |

Which cheap Marantz cd player do you have?
I never heard the Arcam amp and cd player, all I know is that the Marantz PM 7200 is an excellent amp, I have one myself and combined with a cheap Marantz cd player (cd 5000).
Although the cd payer isn't the smoothest friend in town (and that's an understatement), with the PM 7200 it never sounds agressive or too bright.
Problem is they wanna sell it with an Alpha 8 cd player for £300, pushin the budget up.
Who is they? The shop which sells the Marantz too?
I'd compare both amps, with your own cd player and with the Arcam Alpha 8. If it's a good dealer they let you bring your own cd player with you and give you plenty of time to audition in various settings/combinations.
Trust your own ears.
