I am looking for a pair of resonable bookshelfs at about $300 ($400 max). I am matching it up with a htr-5650. I would want to use these as mains until I get the money to really upgrade. Going to be used for mostly classic rock and some movies. Any feed back would be great. |

Easy choice here. Your Yamaha has a tendency to be a bit on the bright side, so it is imperative that you stay away from bright sounding speakers, which abound in your price range. But there is one really good speaker that would be perfect--the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170, which is available directly from the manufacturer here: http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/cbm170/cbm170.html $340 delivered, and if you don't like them you can just ship them back for a full refund, but I would be very surprised if you did because they are superb speakers. Good luck! |

I am sure my friend Hawk is right but since I have no Ascend dealers nearby I can't comment on them but I would check out the Paradigm Mini-Monitor if possible. Price is right and a very good match with your receiver. |
