Have hooked up my new denon 2900 to my denon 3803 receiver through only the digital connection at the moment. There is a digital signal which is being processed by the receiver when i play a DVD-A disc, however i am not sure if this is the full DVD-A signal or just a normal DVD-V audio track. Do you have to use analogue cable for DVD-A to get the full resolution output (I know that you do for SACD) Thanks Bob |

The answer in short: yes! The hi-res formats will only work through the analogue connections. However, on DVD-A discs there is video and/or audio content (mlp for DVD-A) that can output through the digital connection like DD or DTS.

Bob: as MR state, DVD-A is bullet proof - no hi-rez thru' S/PDIF. But there is a trick. Occasionally a DVD-A disc might carry a stereo 96/24 LPCM DVD-V track. I managed to decrypt one of those, and got 2-ch hi-rez through digital cable. Cheers AL |
