Sorry, I didn't see them in your post. IMO the Pioneer Elite line sounds better than the Onkyo.

Thanks, Bleustar.
I'm going to get the better pioneer model - the Elite vsx-54tx. I have it on order. Can't wait
to hook it up to my speakers.

I agree, the Pioneer is superior to the Onkyo. Good choice and I am sure you will be quite happy with it

I have a problem. I've had my Pioneer Elite
vst-54tx for a week now. Whenever i play my
dvd, "Blade II", i have heard some distortion
coming from my rear speakers at certain spots
during the movie. It hasn't happened so far with
any other dvd. The dvd is fine, because my friend played it on his system with no problem.
It seems to happen at all volume levels. The crossover is set to 80hz, but the specs for the rears say that it can handle up to 60hz. I've also heard the distortion from some of the other
speakers but have not pinpointed which ones.
Does anyone have any clues about this problem?

Not all dvds will play on all players.Since you have not had a problem on any other dvd I suspect that dvd and your player are not getting along well. Clean the dvd and try again.

Elitefan1, you were right. the problem wasn't my receiver or speakers. when i turned my receiver off and just played the dvd with the audio from my tv speakers, i could still hear the annoying static noise. it's a compatability problem between my sony dvp-ns425p dvd player and the movie. anyone with suggestions for a dvd player that can play both dvd+r's and sacd's
for preferably under $150.
