My wife would rather a smaller and cheaper sub. Will I be "missing out" by getting the smaller ch-8 as opposed to the ch-10?

Mostly depends on your room. The 8 gives you much of the performance of the 10, just slightly less volume and impact and a little less depth. If you have a large room, get the 10.
